"…Living only for the moment, turning our full attention to the pleasures of the moon, the snow, the cherry blossoms and the maple leaves; singing songs, drinking wine, diverting ourselves just floating, floating….refusing to be disheartened, like a gourd floating along with the river current; this is what we call the floating world…” Asai Ryoi, in Ukiyo Monogatari (Tales of the Floating World, 1661)

Days Wrapped In Their Own Simplicity
It is a simple Saturday morning. We've had a run of nice summer weather for the last week, with days in mid-eighties, which felt really good. Last night, it cooled off nicely and I woke this morning to a cool and gray day. I am loving the simplicity and relative silence of the day. I am sitting here in the living room, listening to the clock on the wall ticking, the birds outside singing, and the sounds of the street as the morning begins to move. I love days like this, days wrapped in their own simplicity, where things are what they simply are.
