"…Living only for the moment, turning our full attention to the pleasures of the moon, the snow, the cherry blossoms and the maple leaves; singing songs, drinking wine, diverting ourselves just floating, floating….refusing to be disheartened, like a gourd floating along with the river current; this is what we call the floating world…” Asai Ryoi, in Ukiyo Monogatari (Tales of the Floating World, 1661)

The Cryptic Notebook
When I travel, or when I am otherwise engaged externally, I tend to carry a small notebook and jot down cryptic things that I try to decipher when I am finished with the trip. The weekend in San Francisco was great - there were many high points and no low points. Tony and I were talking about what the high and low points of the weekend were and we could not come up with any low points at all. I dug deep - on Friday night I had a cramp in my left calf, but that was digging it was more of an inconvenience than a low point. For the next couple of days I am going to wander through my notes and recall those things I saw that stuck with me or made it into the notebook.
