Okay, I sat down to write tonight and I started off with a good laugh. I noticed that, on the previous entry, I called it a "Relazing" day. I think I was inventing a word there. It does, in a way, describe the day however. Today was a similar day, with a little bit more mood.
It was a gray morning, cool, humid and typical of a late summer. I lingered in bed for an extra hour or so, until about six thirty AM, then woke up and started the day. I was kind of moody when I started the day, I was thinking about old wounds and scar tissue. I didn't really dwell on it but it was spinning around in the back of my mind through most of the morning. I made a note to myself to write a longer entry on the topic of "Wounds".
Then, when I was driving over to meet Tony for breakfast, I heard an old song by Phil Collins - "In The Air Tonight". I don't know why, but I was listening to the lyrics in the song and it seemed to kind of dovetail with my thoughts on wounds. It wasn't a black morning, but it verged on it. Fortunately, breakfast was a good (a waffle, sausage and two eggs over easy).
Tony and I then swung back to my place and watched the last two episodes of Dexter, which were enjoyable. Then a quick lunch and I headed over to Target to pick up some groceries and some odds and ends to prepare for the week ahead.
I followed that up with a nap and a book, then a long hot bath. Once out of the bath I made a pot of sausage and vegetable soup from scratch. It was pretty good - it is a recipe I have been working on for a while. It is not quite where I want it to be, so I think next time I am going to try a different sausage. It was a little too sweet this time around.
Then I watched an episode of History Detectives and that brings me right into the now, in the present moment. I tried calling out to the ranch tonight but there wasn't any answer. I suspect they were sitting outside on the porch in the waning sunlight, the typical habit on a South Dakota evening. I am mirroring it here, except I am sitting in the living room with the air conditioner on, since it is still a little muggy out there.
Tomorrow starts a three day work week, which I am looking forward to. I've still got a tall pile of stuff stacked up in front of me, but I made some fair headway last week and I am hoping to make some more fair headway this week and next.. This evening though, I am just going to ease into the evening, watch the clock tick the hours off, and concentrate on just being.
"…Living only for the moment, turning our full attention to the pleasures of the moon, the snow, the cherry blossoms and the maple leaves; singing songs, drinking wine, diverting ourselves just floating, floating….refusing to be disheartened, like a gourd floating along with the river current; this is what we call the floating world…” Asai Ryoi, in Ukiyo Monogatari (Tales of the Floating World, 1661)

Brain Fried
I only got about five or six hours of sleep last night. I went to sleep early enough, but I woke several times through the night. Finally, about four thirty a.m. I rolled out of bed and started the day. I had a nice conversation with TR, then headed off to the office. I spent the morning working on the analysis I mentioned yesterday, finishing it about mid-morning, just in time to start a four hour round of meetings. A nice conversation with one my analysts about ongoing business conditions and a few e-mail wrapped of the day. I came home and started the evening with an hour long nap, then a light dinner of peanut butter and jelly on whole wheat. Now, I've settled in for an easy night of watching episodes of Dexter and Longmire from the DVR. Because of the lack of sleep and the detailed time spent staring at the analytical report I'm pretty brain fried tonight.

Simple and Outward Facing
I thought today was an interesting day and as I sit here near the end of it I am not really sure what made it more interesting than any other day. Still, it was interesting. I woke in the still hours before dawn and lingered in bed to watch the sunrise/ A good call with TR set the day in the right mood.
A shower, then breakfast, then off to see the new Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington movie "2 Guns". It was very entertaining in a bit chaotic, plot-wise. I'd recommend it as a popcorn movie on the strength of the two lead actors.
From there I stopped and got the car washed, then came home and watch an episode of Dexter with Tony. (Tony is in pay-cable exile right now). I followed that up with a long and lingering nap.
So, amid all that, what made the day interesting? The pure simplicity of it.
I just called in an order for pizza and I'm watched the end of the Woody Harrelson, Pierce Brosnan and Salma Hayek movie "After the Sunset" (2004).
I have no other plan for the evening. There is a Sinbad marathon on SyFy, so I might watch that or I might watch something down off the DVR. I've also been promising myself an evening spent almost entirely in reading and tonight might be that evening.
I am finishing up "Red Seas under Red Skies" by Scott Lynch, the second book in his Gentleman Bastards sequence. It has been a good read and looks to end strong.

I Am Human and Attached
I watched the season finales of Dexter and Homeland today. Both of them are awesome television - it is pretty amazing what can be done with the medium these days. However, I always say that with the immediate caveat of - whatever you like on TV, rest assured that for someone else it's the stupidest thing they've ever seen. For what it is worth though, for my money, Dexter and Homeland are as good as it gets though.
It was typical Monday at work - I managed to get some things accomplished and then lost the bubble of the day to unfolding events. One of the skill-sets I possess is complex data retrieval and analysis for legal investigations. It is an interesting skill set and I enjoy the investigative aspect of it. I do find it frustrating that it is always "oh my god, we need to know the answer to this right away" - so, it is complex requests on short lead time. I lost a good part of the day to that sort of event today.
Dinner was a simple cheeseburger and onion rings, in large part because I was too lazy to cook when I got home tonight. Then, I ended up spending most of the evening on family phone calls. Two under my belt, my nephew in the hospital and my step-dad out at the ranch. I am going to try one more in a couple of minutes - my mom was napping when my step-dad called earlier, so I promised to try and call back a little later.
My nephew is starting the slow approach to the runway to get out of the hospital and the question is rising up where he is going to land as an initial destination. That is a discussion that has the chance to become heated, in part because, like most family things, it is one thing layered on top of many layers of other things. That is going to make some stressful days ahead, so I am going to have to practice compassion for all beings. I have to keep practicing it because I am definitely not good at it. I am human and attached.
